Spatial voting patterns in local elections and their related variables
Electoral Strategies and Public Policies: What is the Importance of Municipalities?
- Subnational and local politics
- Focus on party brokers (local electoral intermediaries) and their effect on parties’ electoral performance: • identification of brokers;
- how they work;
- construction of candidates’ lists for legislative seats.
- Use of the geographic granularity of electoral data and administrative records.
- In addition to quantitative analyses, the research will also explore spatial variations, qualitative approaches, and survey experiments.
- This project also has the goal to analyze the provision of municipal public services and the implementation of urban public policies as electoral strategies.
Spatial voting patterns in local elections and their related variables
- Identifying spatial voting patterns for candidates in mayoral and city councilor elections, using data disaggregated at the polling place level (Avelino, Biderman and Silva, 2016; Gelape, 2017).
- Investigating candidates' strategies in local elections.
- Examining their association with other factors, such as the availability and infrastructure of public services, implementation of public policies, and political or socioeconomic characteristics (Bueno, 2018; Hoyler, Gelape, and Silotto, 2021).
