Research and Innovation Committee

Created in 2016 with the goal of analyzing the methodological rigor and potential impact of applied research projects from different units of FGV, the Research and Innovation Committee has been working to increase the institution's research production capacity. An essential component for the development and execution of multidisciplinary research projects with high social impact is the existence of an incentive structure focused on fostering such projects. In FGV's case, it is worth highlighting the creation of an internal fund to finance research projects supported by this Committee. This is the FGV Applied Research Fund (FPA FGV), which has funded over 270 research projects since 2014.

The selection process for the committee begins in the middle of each year, with notification to the institution's researchers, who are invited to submit their research project proposals. In the final months of the year, the submitted projects are evaluated by the Research Committee according to the following criteria:

  1. Clarity and objectivity of the research question the project aims to answer;
  2. Scientific and technical merit of the project, as well as methodological rigor;
  3. Innovation and originality of the project;
  4. The potential contribution of the project to the socio-economic development of Brazil;
  5. Estimated social impact of the study, contributing to the formation of public policies, development of new business management models, or creation of new applied methods;
  6. Interdisciplinary nature of the research team;
  7. Institutional support from public and private sector entities and companies for project development, such as access to databases, employee participation, or declaration of interest in utilizing the research results, among others;
  8. Involvement of young researchers from FGV’s programs and other research institutions.
